Born and raised in Zephyrhills, State Senator Danny Burgess was elected at age 18 to the Zephyrhills City Council, making him the youngest elected official in the State of Florida. While serving on the City Council, he attended the University of South Florida, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He graduated with his law degree from Barry University in 2011 and joined the U.S. Army Reserve before returning to Zephyrhills to serve as Mayor.
Danny was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2014 and subsequently re-elected in 2016 and 2018. Shortly after the 2018 election, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Danny as Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs where he served until 2020 when he was elected to the Florida Senate.
Senator Burgess currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He practices law at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP and continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve at the rank of Major. He and his wife Courtney live in Zephyrhills and have three children: Adeline, Danny III, and Eleanor.
