The Edgecomb Mentoring Circle serves as a tribute to George's contributions as a Big Brothers Big Sisters Board member, a Big Brother to his Little, and a Community Trailblazer, being the first African-American county judge for Hillsborough County at just 31 years old.
Raised in the projects in West Tampa, he overcame many obstacles to follow his dream and achieve excellence. Judge Edgecomb passed away from leukemia just three years after taking the bench. However, his legacy of community service and educational support has lived on through his widow Doretha and daughter Allison and now comes "Full Circle."
In the spirit of this legacy, the Edgecomb Mentoring Circle will support mentoring relationships and experiences for kids, helping them reach their full potential. The pillars of JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) are integral to our mission and we celebrate the opportunity to serve ALL kids. Our goal is for all youth to graduate with a plan for their future, and a mentor whose impact will last a lifetime. Whether through higher education, military service, or employment, the program will change lives for the better, forever.
The George & Doretha Edgecomb Mentoring Circle represents a full circle of support and commitment to our youth. For over 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay has been a beacon of hope, transforming lives through mentorship. We are proud to partner with the Edgecomb family to continue this powerful legacy and make an even greater impact on the lives of children in our community.
